This Lancaster model has its landing gear fixed in the extended position. It is mostly made of metal. It is certainly not a toy and will not survive been played with or a fall.

This version of the model depicts the planes that were modified to carry the super-heavy bombs like the Tallboy and Grand Slam. These modifications included the removal of some gun turrets.

Although it is a small scale, the details are very impressive. From the photos one can see and appreciate the transparent cockpit windshield, as well as the other transparent parts in the different gun positions and view ports. The propellers are free to rotate and very smooth. If one blows onto the front of the plane, all four propellers start spinning.

A stand where the model can beattached for display is included and the model’s info (type of airplane and scale) is printed.

The maker of the model, Amercom, really did a good job with the model, the panel lines and details are very clear and crisp.What really caught my attention, however, is the way the markings and coloring. Look at the photos and you will see very clear and crisp nose art and markings.

These models come in what could be described as a disposable blister pack (sandwiched between two transparent plastic shells and then glued/attached to a piece of cardboard with the branding info. There is really nothing spectacular about the packaging, but at the end, the packaging is supposed to be disposable and with the sole function protecting the model, which it does very well.

All weapons are already attached to the model. One just needs to open the pack and display it (or play with it).

Keep in mind that these are really not toys, they are models made for collecting and display purposes. The packaging is labeled as Not Suitable for children under 14 years old.

The Avro Lancaster is a British four-engined Second World War heavy bomber designed and built by Avro for the Royal Air Force (RAF). It first saw active service with RAF Bomber Command in 1942 and, as the strategic bombing offensive over Europe gathered momentum, it was the central implement for the night-time bombing campaigns that followed. It became the main heavy bomber used by the RAF, the RCAF, and squadrons from other Commonwealth and European countries serving within the RAF, overshadowing its close contemporaries the Handley Page Halifax and Short Stirling.[1] The “Lanc”, as it was affectionately known, thus became one of the more famous and most successful of the Second World War night bombers, “delivering 608,612 long tons of bombs in 156,000 sorties.”The Lancaster, an evolution of the troublesome Avro Manchester, was designed by Roy Chadwick and was powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlins, or, in one version, Bristol Hercules engines.
